Job summary

American Cruise Lines seeks experienced Mates for our U.S. flag fleet. Mates are senior shipboard officers responsible for safe vessel operations and professional leadership, reporting to the Captain.

They supervise deck teams, develop piloting skills on coastal and river routes, and ensure adherence to standards while delivering five-star guest service. The role requires a valid U.S. Coast Guard Mate’s license with near coastal endorsement (100 GRT minimum; 1,600 GRT preferred), TWIC, and 2+

Qualifications

  • U.S. Coast Guard Mate’s license with near coastal endorsement; minimum 100 GRT, 1,600 GRT preferred.
  • Coastal and river waterways experience: 2+ years, 5+ years with Z-drive preferred.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
  • Operate the vessel in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
  • Supervise, lead, and develop deck officers.
  • Execute vessel cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Conduct crew orientation, training, watch standing, and emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew for five-star guest service.
  • Document cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Maintain a safe, clean onboard environment for passengers and crew.
