Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data on the Institutional Markets team. You will build and operate real-time market data systems with low latency, connect to venues, and ensure reliability across the trading platform.

You'll work with backend engineers and product partners to deliver scalable data capabilities, shipping features end-to-end while maintaining observability and code quality on a lean team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building and maintaining production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data consumed by trading systems across the platform.
• Drive reliability and performance improvements through observability, on-call participation, and incident response.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team.
• Partner with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities that support Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap.
