Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data, on the Institutional Markets team. You will build and operate real-time market data systems across the platform, enabling low latency and high throughput for trading workflows.

You'll work with feed handlers, normalization, and distribution layers, while driving reliability through observability and incident response. This role emphasizes delivering robust data capabilities to support Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building low-latency production systems.
• Hands-on with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and high-throughput messaging (Aeron, SBE).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating in production.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers and distribution systems.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time data used by trading systems.
• Improve reliability via observability, on-call participation, and incident response.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to enable market data capabilities.
