Job summary

Hawaii Stevedores, Inc. in the United States is seeking a seasoned supervisor to coordinate ILWU stevedoring operations, organize crews, and maintain productive labor relations while ensuring cargo is handled efficiently and safely.

You will develop vessel schedules, generate reports, and liaise with customers and vessel staff to optimize loading methods, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and union contracts. Shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; maritime operations degree preferred.
• 5 years of related marine terminal operations experience.
• 1 year supervising staff; supervision of union-represented employees preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of ILWU labor contracts and port practices.
• Thorough knowledge of terminal operations, stevedore operations for break bulk, ro-ro, and/or container vessels, and cargo stowage restrictions with regards to hazardous cargo and stability.
• Working knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities of ILWU workers during stevedoring operations and provide tactical direction at the start of assignments.
• Organize and structure gangs to effectively execute operations plans.
• Supervise relations with union and non-union labor while ensuring cargo is efficiently managed.
• Develop vessel schedules and production, payroll-related, safety and other reports using computer systems or manuals.
• Coordinate with customers, shipper, stevedores, agents, and vessel staff on efficient, safe loading methods.
• Review, monitor and report on cargo vessel production.
• Coordinate handoff to incoming supervisors during shift changes.
• Maintain positive customer relations by understanding needs and contract terms and implementing plans.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and hazard control.
• Maintain team communication and morale; keep management informed of status and issues.
• Maintain knowledge of union contracts and procedures; provide equipment feedback to improve efficiency.
• Review performance and apply corrective actions when required; perform other duties as assigned.
