Job summary

Birdon America Inc. is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in Elmwood, LA to lead mechanical system design and integration across program lifecycles. The role emphasizes piping, propulsion, deck equipment, and regulatory compliance within government-related projects.

The candidate will develop specifications, manage complex design artifacts, and coordinate with subcontractors and customers to ensure technical and schedule objectives are met. Strong CAD and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; required.

Responsibilities

• Develop system designs (Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Piping Systems, Propulsion Systems, Machinery Systems) for assigned program(s).
• Develop specifications and design artifacts to achieve mechanical engineering deliverables such as drawings, procurement specifications, calculations, analyses, system interfaces, and mechanical configurations.
• Develop complex system development, specification trace packages, detailed engineering reports and system drawings.
• Develop technical reports such as site surveys, test procedures, test reports, trade studies, and white papers; write and support executive level papers/briefs for submission as required.
• Check designs and drawings for accuracy and adherence to contract requirements.
• Troubleshoot and solve highly complex technical issues related to piping systems, propulsion systems, and deck machinery promptly.
• Work with engineering leadership to ensure resources are assigned to meet contract milestones and deliverables.
• Serve as technical lead for subcontract management including review, approval, and oversight of design execution for major subcontractors.
• Manage design configuration for engineering change including design integration and change adjudication.
• Support development of Engineering Change Proposal.
• Maintain technical relationships with customer and program office.
• Develop and deliver detailed technical program reviews to internal and external customers as required.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment to drive engineering excellence.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to create work instructions, best practices, tools, and manage small projects to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
