Job summary

Odyssea Marine seeks an Engineer/Oiler to join our vessel crew in the Gulf of Mexico region. You will perform watch duties, supervise engine room operations, and conduct preventive maintenance in line with vessel regulations.

Strong emphasis on safety, PPE, and environmental compliance is required as you manage fuel, lubricants, and supplies. On joining, you will inspect engine room spaces, assess machinery condition, review repairs status, and ensure handover documentation is complete before

Responsibilities

  • Perform attentive and professional watch standing as ordered by the Master.
  • Monitoring all work on the vessel's machinery in accord with all relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, using work practices that are deemed as safe.
  • Conducting corrective and preventive maintenance, through scheduled inspections of all engine room and machinery spaces.
  • Monitoring the use of the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by the engine room crew and by those who enter the machinery and engine spaces.
  • Overseeing the transfer of fuel, lubricants, ballast, and potable water.
  • Overseeing of all bilge discharges.
  • Ensuring the proper completion of a Declaration of Inspection before transfer of fuel, hazardous material or lubricants (via hose) to the vessel.
  • Maintaining and recording correct records of fuel and lubes through soundings and fuel tickets. Keeping inventory. Ordering, receiving and stowing any engine room stores and tools.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to all machinery spaces.
  • Making sure to check any hot work that is performed as planned in advance is using an approved Hot Work Permit.
  • Working with vendors or subcontractors hired to make vessel repairs.
  • Ensuring their awareness and willingness to comply with the Companys safety and environmental policies. Tracking their hours on board.
  • Ensuring vendor invoice tickets reflect actual hours worked before signing or recommending to the Master.
  • Keeping all necessary logs, records and activities of inspection maintenance that has been performed aboard the vessel.
  • Making sure that proper Pre-Task Planning has been performed before the work mentioned above is started.
  • Ensuring familiarity with all details of emergency plans, stations, and arranged procedures.
  • Performing these duties in a professional seaman-like manner while practicing and promoting the highest safety and environmental standards possible.
  • Conduct a thorough inspection and examination of the engine room spaces, systems and all equipment.
  • Note the overall condition of the vessel, main engines, and power generating systems.
  • Review the progress of repairs, maintenance, and the status of the consumable items.
  • Review the Engineers Handover File to make sure that all correspondence, logs and/or record books are current before taking control as the oncoming Engineer/Oiler.
  • Additionally, all physical requirements must meet USCG Physical Requirements as determined in NVIC 04-08.
