Job summary

BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair is seeking a Marine Electrician 1st Class Mechanic to support the Norfolk Ship Repair Facility.

The role involves troubleshooting and repairing shipboard electrical systems, reading technical drawings, and laying out installation work. Candidates should have 5–7 years in trade and a High School Diploma or GED, with the ability to work independently or in a team within a heavy industrial environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to carry a First-Class Ship Marine Electrician.
• Must have a working knowledge of Shipboard Electrical Systems, installations, troubleshooting procedures and repair.
• Must be able to read and interpret work specifications, technical drawings, military specifications and NAVSEA Standard Items in order to perform electrical repairs, installations and cable terminations.
• Must be able to work individually as well as in a team setting.
• Must be able to carry a tool bag weight 20-30 pounds
• Able to enter and exit a standard horizontal and vertical manhole (15 inches x 23 inches)
• Able to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time
• Must be able to climb vertical or inclined ladders
• Must be able to stand, sit, push/pull and stoop
• Must be able to work in a kneeling position, crawling or work with body bent over at the waist
• Must be able to work with arms extended at shoulder level and above tool bag weight 20-30 pounds

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment aboard vessels.
• Maintain a safe working environment by following required safety practices in a heavy industrial setting.
• Follow lock-out, danger, red tag procedures and NAVSEA WAF requirements.
• Review job packets and drawings to determine and reference needed drawings.
• Layout jobs identifying installation equipment and control devices.
• Rip-out systems using hand and power tools per schematics or work orders.
• Install control and distribution equipment and panels.
• Determine cable paths using blueprints and job orders.
• Install electrical circuits by following wiring schematics and securing cables.
• Mark and tag cabling with circuit numbers for identification.
