Job summary

Brown University is seeking a Senior Library Expert - Cataloging and Discovery to manage metadata for the Library's catalog across collections and discovery systems. You will create, enhance, and remediate MARC metadata, integrate vendor records, and support data-driven improvements.

The role requires metadata management experience, familiarity with MARC 21, RDA, and LC schemas, and strong communication skills. Hybrid work arrangement and collaboration across departments are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education and/or experience.
• 2 or more years of metadata management experience required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated expertise creating, editing, and transforming metadata utilizing data manipulation tools and applications.
• Ability to work with a variety of data formats (e.g., XML, CSV, etc.).
• Strong computer skills and aptitude for learning and adapting to the use of new tools and technologies.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and to actively participate in team-based decision making and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Creates, enhances, and remediates MARC descriptive metadata at scale.
• Evaluates, amends, and integrates vendor supplied metadata records.
• Identifies, investigates, and resolves metadata issues per guidelines.
• Generates analytics reports to support cleanup projects and data gathering.
• Introduces or updates data automation routines to improve workflows.
• Assists with enhancement and remediation of migrated MARC metadata.
• Trains coworkers on metadata management tasks.
• Searches bibliographic resources to describe content; researches resources as needed.
• Utilizes current cataloging rules, MARC 21, RDA, LCSH, and LC schemas.
• Writes documentation for Cataloging Department workflows.
• Participates in cross-department collaborative projects.
