Job summary

Brown University seeks a Senior Library Expert - Cataloging and Discovery to manage MARC metadata across the library's catalogs and discovery systems. You will create, enhance, and remediate metadata at scale and support complex cataloging tasks.

The role involves evaluating vendor records, improving data workflows, and training colleagues. You will work in a hybrid environment with collaboration across departments and adherence to MARC 21, RDA, and LC schemes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education and/or experience.
• 2+ years metadata management experience required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Expertise creating, editing, and transforming metadata with data tools.
• Ability to work with data formats (XML, CSV, etc.).
• Strong computer skills and adaptability to new tools.

Responsibilities

• Create, enhance, and remediate MARC descriptive metadata at scale.
• Evaluate and integrate vendor metadata records into the catalog.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve metadata issues per guidelines.
• Generate analytics reports to assist cleanup projects and data gathering.
• Update data automation routines to improve workflows.
• Train colleagues on metadata management tasks.
• Collaborate on cataloging across formats and write documentation.
