Job summary

Brown University seeks a Senior Library Expert - Cataloging and Discovery - Metadata Management Specialist to lead MARC metadata creation, remediation, and integration across the library’s catalogs and discovery systems.

You will work with MARC21, RDA, LCSH, and related standards, train staff, and collaborate on projects across library departments, with a hybrid work arrangement.

A background in metadata management and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education and/or experience.
• 2+ years metadata management experience.
• Knowledge of cataloging standards (MARC, RDA, LCSH).
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Experience transforming metadata with data manipulation tools.
• Ability to handle XML/CSV data formats.
• Eager to learn new tools and collaborate in a team.

Responsibilities

• Create, enhance, and remediate MARC metadata for the catalog at scale.
• Evaluate and integrate vendor metadata into the catalog.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve metadata issues per guidelines.
• Generate analytics to support cleanup, holdings updates, and data gathering.
• Develop data automation routines to improve workflow.
• Train coworkers on metadata management tasks.
• Research bibliographic resources to describe library materials.
• Apply MARC 21, RDA, and LC classifications in descriptions.
