Job summary

True North Consultants, Inc. in Waterloo, IA seeks a Training & Development Manager to lead onboarding, technical skills development, and compliance training. You will partner with leaders to create effective programs that enhance safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

The role oversees training from orientation through advanced technical instruction, with opportunities to improve procedures, materials, and assessments across departments and shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (HR, Education, Business Admin, Organizational Development) is required.
• 3–5 years of experience in employee training, learning and development, or technical training.
• Experience delivering training programs across multiple departments or functions.
• Hands-on technical training delivery and ability to assess competency.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety training requirements.
• Ability to read blueprints and shop math; understanding manufacturing procedures.
• Manufacturing or welding/metal fabrication experience is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with attention to records and certifications.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills across shifts and experience levels.

Responsibilities

• Develop structured onboarding programs, training schedules, and role-specific checklists with department leaders.
• Deliver new hire training across departments, ensuring understanding of responsibilities, procedures, quality, and safety.
• Conduct hands-on skills assessments and authorize independent job performance when ready.
• Develop ongoing training to strengthen technical proficiency, workmanship, problem-solving, and performance.
• Coordinate training for new equipment, tooling, processes, systems, and procedural changes.
• Oversee safety and compliance training programs per OSHA requirements and company policies.
