Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Devens, MA seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer - First Shift to design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for high-precision hardware, collaborating with design, quality, and supply chain to ensure safety and efficiency on the production line.

The role requires hands-on troubleshooting, RCCA, and experience with GD&T and CAD tools, owning the magnet-related shift with strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electro‑mechanical equipment and tooling on the production floor
  • Demonstrated RCCA frameworks and Lean/Six Sigma tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, CAD modeling (SolidWorks, NX), and drawing interpretation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across shift transfers

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and qualify manufacturing processes for new products, meeting quality, cost, and production rate targets
  • Lead design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment for efficient production
  • Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support for first shift production operations
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and automated manufacturing assembly issues
  • Maintain and update manufacturing documentation (SOPs, work instructions, operation sequencing)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address shift handoffs and non-conformances
  • Implement RCCA for quality non-conformances and bottlenecks
  • Lead process optimization projects to improve safety, yield, cycle time, and cost efficiency
