Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Indianapolis, IN, is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the process definition for next‑generation fiber instrument modules, from PCBA to final assembly, calibration, and pack‑out.

You will partner with R&D in Indianapolis and St. Etienne, France, and with contract manufacturers to build repeatable, cost‑effective processes, define tooling, and implement PFMEA and control plans. This role requires leadership, travel, and strong collaboration across time zones.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering.
5+ years in manufacturing or NPI engineering.
Experience with PFMEA, control plans, and process validation.
Experience with DFM/DFA and tooling/fixture development.

Responsibilities

Define and own end-to-end manufacturing process design for new fiber optic instruments (PCBA through final assembly, calibration, and pack-out).
Develop and qualify assembly tooling, fixtures, and process equipment.
Partner with R&D and contract manufacturers across sites; lead pilot builds and first articles.
Drive cost reduction, lean improvements, and process documentation across programs.
