Job summary
Merck & Co., Inc. in Wilson, NC seeks a Senior Specialist, Manufacturing Automation to act as site technical lead for automation systems supporting production operations.
You will provide expertise across PLCs, HMIs, machine vision, serialization, MES, IT and OEM platforms, ensuring reliable, compliant and secure automation while driving continuous improvement. This role focuses on packaging automation and vision/serialization technologies (Systech, Cognex, Optel).
Qualifications
- Eight or more years in automation, controls engineering, or related experience.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and industrial control systems.
- Experience supporting automation systems in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated project leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and shop floor support for automation systems.
- Serve as site SME for machine vision and serialization technologies.
- Lead troubleshooting and CAPA for complex automation issues.
- Support packaging and inspection systems including barcode verification and serialization.
- Develop strategies to optimize system performance and lifecycle management.
- Mentor and share knowledge across engineering and operations.
