Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or other technical accounting roles.
  • Strong understanding of current U.S. GAAP and ability to research complex topics.
  • CPA Certification
  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools like Hyperion, Costpoint, Cognos.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze unique transactions and prepare technical accounting memos to document accounting positions.
  • Review accounting policies and procedures for ongoing pertinence.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Legal, Operations, and other teams to provide technical accounting guidance on topics such as revenue recognition, software development, business combinations, leases, stock-based compensation, and derivatives.
  • Monitor and lead implementations of new accounting standards as applicable.
  • Take the lead on topics including purchase accounting, software development, lease accounting, impairment assessments of goodwill and long-lived assets, joint ventures, and segment reporting.
  • Interact with external auditors.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing quarterly Forms 10-Q and 8-K, and annual Forms 10-K and Proxy statements.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving SOX compliance related to technical accounting processes.
  • Provide support on various special projects as assigned by management.

Job description

Our client seeks a Technical Accounting Senior Manager to lead review of complex transactions and provide accounting guidance to various stakeholders. Success in this role requires a solid understanding of current U.S. GAAP, an ability to research and document complex technical accounting topics, strong communication and analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and ability to work independently.

This is a hybrid position based in our headquarters in Reston, VA, and will report to the Senior Director, Accounting Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze unique transactions and prepare technical accounting memos to document accounting positions to ensure proper accounting and disclosure conclusions.
  • Review accounting policies and procedures for ongoing pertinence.
  • Collaborate with other teams (FP&A, Tax, Legal, Operations, Business Developments, Treasury, etc.) to provide technical accounting guidance on various topics including: revenue recognition, software development, business combinations, leases, stock-based compensation, and derivatives.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of new accounting standards and lead implementations as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or other technical accounting roles, including experience with the following areas of U.S. GAAP: ASC 606, 805, 842, and 718.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related discipline.
  • CPA Certification
  • Experience with Hyperion (HFM), Costpoint, and Cognos preferred.
