Job summary

Green Key Resources is seeking a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting for a publicly traded energy company in New York. The role focuses on evaluating complex transactions, documenting US GAAP/SEC implications, and supporting policy development and new standard implementations.

You will partner with cross-functional teams and external auditors, review leases and debt arrangements, and assist with capital raises and major transactions.

Qualifications

  • BS or Master's degree in Accounting; CPA required.
  • 8+ years accounting experience, ideally Big 4 or public company exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 842, ASC 606, and ASC 470.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and communicate accounting implications of complex transactions.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Research and document US GAAP and SEC implications of new or unusual transactions through well-written memos.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on implementation of new agreements or transactions.
  • Review lease contracts and determine operating vs. finance lease conclusions.
  • Assess new debt agreements or amendments and document modification vs. extinguishment outcomes.
  • Review the tax provision package, validate actuals to the GL, and confirm significant transactions.
  • Serve as a key contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters.
  • Assist with implementing new accounting standards and developing related workpapers and processes.
  • Draft, update, and review accounting policies; support training for teams and international reporting entities.
  • Support capital raises and other significant corporate transactions.

Our client who is a publicly traded energy company is adding a Senior Manager, Technical Accounting to their team. This role is a great option for someone who is shifting directly from public accounting!


Overview: This role is responsible for evaluating complex transactions and documenting the related US GAAP and SEC reporting implications. The position supports technical research, policy development, fair value modeling, and the implementation of new accounting standards, while partnering closely with cross‑functional teams and external auditors.


Responsibilities



  • Research and document US GAAP and SEC reporting implications of new or unusual transactions through well‑written technical memos

  • Partner with cross‑functional teams on the operational and technical implementation of new agreements or transactions

  • Review lease contracts and document operating vs. finance lease conclusions

  • Assess new debt agreements or amendments and document modification vs. extinguishment outcomes

  • Review the tax provision package, validate actuals to the GL, assess forecasted PBTI, and confirm proper inclusion of significant transactions

  • Serve as a key contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters and policy changes

  • Assist with implementing new accounting standards and developing related workpapers and processes

  • Draft, update, and review accounting policies; support internal training for functional teams and international reporting entities

  • Support capital raises and other significant corporate transactions


Qualifications



  • BS or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA required

  • 8+ years of accounting experience, ideally including Big 4 or public company technical accounting exposure

  • Strong knowledge of ASC 842, ASC 606, and ASC 470

  • Demonstrated ability to assess and communicate accounting implications of complex transactions

  • Strong technical research and memo‑writing skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast‑moving, deadline‑driven environment

  • Proficiency with SharePoint, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Workiva experience preferred
