Job summary

Goodwill Houston is seeking a Sr. Manager, Material Recovery to lead salvage, waste, and recycling operations across all locations, owning the P&L and driving value recovery while diverting materials from landfills.

You will coach the Salvage team, build vendor relationships, monitor metrics, ensure safety and compliance, and partner with transportation and retail to optimize the end-of-life handling of donated goods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, business, operations management, supply chain or related field.
• Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in salvage, waste management, recycling, sustainability, or related operations.
• Experience managing teams, P&L responsibility, and vendor relationships.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills with the ability to translate data into actionable improvements.
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel) and data analysis capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with a safe driving record and ability to travel between GWH locations as needed.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for current or future employment. GWH does not offer visa sponsorship for employment purposes.

Responsibilities

• Direct strategy for salvage, waste, and recycling operations to maximize value recovery and landfill diversion.
• Own the P&L for salvage and waste activities including revenue targets and expenses.
• Ensure payroll and operating costs are managed to budget with resource efficiency.
• Provide recommendations to senior leadership on market trends and opportunities.
• Oversee salvage, waste, and recycling activities to ensure safe, efficient operations.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory, revenues, weights, and schedules.
• Coordinate with transportation leadership to optimize load planning and timely shipments.
• Monitor production reporting and operational metrics to drive efficiency.
• Implement strategies to reduce waste and maximize commodity revenue.
• Provide leadership and coaching to Salvage Operations Manager and Coordinators.
