Job summary

Roskam Foods in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking a Senior Manager of Human Resources to provide strategic HR Operations support across US Operations. You will lead a team of HR professionals, partner with plant leadership, and drive talent strategy, employee relations, and compliance while advancing continuous improvement.

The role requires 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in leadership, manufacturing and union environments preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field (master's preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in leadership roles.
  • HR experience in a union environment strongly preferred. Previous manufacturing HR experience required.
  • Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience conducting first-line and management training.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HRIS systems (Workday), and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Executes Human Resources strategies that support organizational goals and culture.
  • Oversee employee lifecycle processes, ensuring a seamless and positive experience.
  • Leads a team of professional human resources managers, human resources generalists, HR coordinators.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees on HR-related matters.
  • Benchmarks current policies and programs and makes recommendations for enhancements, additions, and changes.
  • Keeps up to date on current laws and legislation. Designs and implements programs to meet those changes.
  • Analyzes HR metrics to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Discovers continuous improvement opportunities and takes the initiative to drive incremental change in processes and systems. Acts as a change agent.
  • Drives automation of manual processes.
  • Manages the labor relationship with the union.
  • Works with plant leadership creating creative ways to retain talent. This includes, but is not limited to, shift schedules, rotation programs, moving talent around, creating cross-training programs, etc.
  • Leads team to implement programs and processes, for example, benefit enrollment, employee education, return to work, etc.

Reporting to the Sr Director of Human Resources, the Senior Manager of Human Resources will provide strategic Human Resources Operations support to the US Operations. Understands and meets the needs of Operations and other Functions to support success in business objectives. Leads a team that provides support in coaching, employee relations, employee recognition, and day-to-day support of Human Resources.

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees on HR-related matters.

  • Keeps up to date on current laws and legislation. Designs and implements programs to meet those changes.
  • Analyzes HR metrics to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Leads team to implement programs and processes, for example, benefit enrollment, employee education, return to work, etc.
  • Travels as needed to support remote locations.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field (master's preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in leadership roles.
  • HR experience in a union environment strongly preferred. Previous manufacturing HR experience required.
  • Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience conducting first-line and management training.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees and be perceived as an approachable and knowledgeable resource.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Excellent PowerPoint skills preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HRIS systems (preferably Workday), and best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Certifications such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR are a plus.
