Job summary

Roskam Foods, a Grand Rapids-based contract manufacturer, seeks an HR Generalist to partner with leaders across manufacturing and administration. You will drive process improvements, ensure policy compliance, and manage employee relations in a fast-paced environment.

This role spends time on the production floor, supports safety initiatives, handles inquiries, investigations, and training, and helps recruit, onboard, and develop employees within a union-aware setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, or related field required.
• At least one year of HR and employee relations experience preferred.
• Experience in a union environment is strongly preferred.
• Able to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement in HR processes and act as a change agent.
• Ensure fair treatment of employees in line with policies and laws.
• Partner with leaders on compliance with employment regulations and HR policies.
• Support leaders to achieve business unit and department goals.
• Spend significant time on the production floor providing hands-on support.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures with the plant safety team.
• Handle disciplinary matters, investigations, and performance management.
• Respond to applicant and employee inquiries and assist with investigations.

Position Description and Purpose:

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

• Discovers continuous improvement opportunities and takes the initiative to drive incremental changes in HR processes and systems. Acts as a change agent.
• Ensures employees at all levels are treated fairly in compliance with company, state and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
• Partners with leaders and HR management regarding compliance with all applicable state and federal employment regulations, Human Resources policies, and best practices.
• Supports leaders to achieve business unit and department goals.
• Partners with other members of the HR Team and Centers of Excellence teams as needed.
• Project team member and implementor for HR initiatives.
• Spends significant time in the production areas offering hands-on support.
• Partners with plant safety team to enforce safe policy and procedures.
• Executes human resource programs including but not limited to disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
• Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring to complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
• Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field experience required.
• At least one year of human resources and employee relations experience is preferred.
• Experience in a union environment is strongly preferred.
• Previous manufacturing HR experience preferred.
• Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Ability to interact with all levels of employees and be perceived as an approachable and knowledgeable resource.
• Bi-lingual preferred.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
