Job summary

Breakthrough Energy seeks a Senior Manager, Grid Modeling, to advance its GRIDS program with a focus on power system modeling, benchmarking, and open-source data sources. You will work across partners to develop accessible planning models and drive adoption of open tools to enhance low-carbon grid planning worldwide.

Reporting to the Director, Research and Analytics, GRIDS, you will scoping grants, managing external collaborations, and leading technical outreach to utilities, think tanks, and

Qualifications

• 5+ years in transmission/distribution planning and power systems modeling at utilities, ISOs/RTOs, or consulting firms.
• Experience building and maintaining planning models including networks, generators, and dynamics.
• Experience with steady-state, transient stability, short-circuit, and EMT analyses.
• Strong relationship-building across stakeholder groups in energy/climate.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Proficiency with open-source and commercial grid tools.

Responsibilities

• Benchmark grid modeling tools and data sources, prototype open-tool workflows, and report gaps to leadership.
• Design benchmarking programs with external collaborators and manage grants for outputs.
• Scope and monitor grants/contracts to partner orgs advancing open-source tools and methods.
• Guide pilot deployments of open-source workflows with utilities and grid operators.
• Translate findings into GRIDS investment roadmaps and program leadership communications.
• Stay current on grid modeling trends and open-source developments.
