Job summary

Morningstar, Inc. in Chicago is seeking a Senior Manager - Financial Reporting to lead the global consolidated financial statements, SEC filings, earnings releases, and board reports. You will oversee stock compensation and lease accounting, reporting to the Director - Financial Reporting.

You will manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, coordinate with auditors, ensure SOX compliance, and drive policy development, with a focus on US GAAP and SEC requirements in a multinational environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
• A CPA is required.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of accounting experience, including experience with a Big 4 accounting firm and/or related SEC reporting experience at a large, multi-national, publicly-held corporation.
• Big 4 public accounting experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including SEC reporting requirements.
• Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities and deadlines, with attention to detail, and an ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent documentation skills to be used in developing audit work papers and completing SOX reviews.
• Knowledge of FCCS financial consolidation software is a plus.
• Working knowledge of XBRL is preferred.
• Strong skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).

Responsibilities

• Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements ensuing compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
• Assist in researching and resolving complex financial reporting issues and significant, complex, and/or unusual transactions to ensure proper application of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
• Develop and maintain accounting and financial reporting-related policies and procedures.
• Oversee and review various monthly close activities, including accounting for stock-based compensation, various journal entries, account reconciliations, and cash flow statement review.
• Ensure continued compliance with internal audit and SOX requirements and identify process/control enhancements.
• Coordinate with auditors to assist in quarterly and year-end audit procedures, including audit requests.
• Oversee the process to review XBRL tagging with external vendor for 10-Qs and 10-K.
• Manage and lead the Financial Reporting team, ensuring the appropriate team structure, daily motivation and supervision, ongoing performance management, and managing change.
• Manage FCCS application and Global Chart of Accounts.
• Prepare ad hoc analyses for management and auditors, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
