Job summary

Ziply Fiber is seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering in Spokane to lead teams designing and building scalable fiber networks. You will oversee the end-to-end engineering design process, manage internal teams and external partners, and drive innovation to meet deployment goals.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in fiber engineering, strong leadership, GIS/CAD proficiency, and experience with PowerBI/Tableau. This is a full-time, on-site role focused on standards and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive fiber network engineering experience.
  • 3+ years in a leadership/people management role.
  • Experience with large-scale fiber design, routing, permitting.
  • Knowledge of GIS, CAD tools, asset management systems and workflows.
  • Experience with internal and external engineering vendors.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Senior Manager,Engineering leads teams responsible for designing and building scalable,cost-effective fiber networks, ensuring all designs meet technical andregulatory standards. This role oversees the entire engineering design process,manages internal teams and external partners, and drives innovation andoperational excellence. The Senior Manager is accountable for deliveringhigh-quality, construction-ready designs and maintaining accurate OSP recordsto support Ziply Fiber’s mission of expanding state-of-the-art fiber networks.Strategic leadership, vendor management, and expertise in fiber networkengineering are essential for enabling large-scale deployment and long-termnetwork sustainability

Program Strategy and Network Design
  • Providethe end-to-end program direction to organize, develop, and execute a programbuild across multiple functional teams.
  • Developand execute the fiber engineering design strategy in alignment with businessexpansion and network deployment goals.
  • Overseeend-to-end design processes, including route planning, permitting, andcompliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensuredesigns are optimized for scalability, cost efficiency, constructability, andlong-term maintainability.
Engineering Leadership and Partnerships
  • Leadand mentor a team of engineering managers, designers, and support staff todeliver high-quality network designs on schedule.
  • Managerelationships with external engineering vendors, contractors, and consultants,ensuring alignment with company standards and project timelines.
  • Fostera culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement withinthe engineering organization.
  • Partnerwith construction, operations, product, and finance teams to align engineeringdesign with deployment readiness and business objectives.
  • Coordinateand participate in various internal meetings to ensure communication andalignment of initiatives, information sharing and implementation of bestpractices.
Standards, Compliance, and Project Execution
  • Establishand enforce engineering design standards, documentation practices, and qualitycontrol measures, and oversee adherence to industry best practices and evolvingstandards in fiber network engineering.
  • Ensureengineering work orders are designed in compliance with all company standards,NESC, Utility Pole Agreements, and municipal requirements, as well as publicROW or utility easements, and ensure compliance with permitting requirements,safety standards, and environmental regulations. Mitigate risks by proactivelyidentifying engineering challenges and implementing solutions. Oversee thecompletion of necessary permit applications.
  • Verifycontractor’s invoices for accuracy and process to AP in a timely manner.
  • Develop,coordinate, and execute project schedules with contractors, propertymanagement, customers, vendors, internal stakeholders, municipalities, andgovernment agencies.
Process Improvement, Innovation, andPerformance
  • Providedirection to the organization on Engineering process to drive continuousimprovement
  • Driveinnovation in design methodologies, leveraging automation, GIS platforms, andadvanced engineering tools, and implement best-in-class workflows to improvespeed, accuracy, and efficiency of design deliverables. Establish and manageprocess indicators and performance metrics to optimize workflows.
  • Stayahead of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory developments to maintaincompetitive advantage.
Other Duties

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum six (8) years of progressive experiencein fiber network engineering, including quoting, permitting, and otherpre-construction activities.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in aleadership/people management capacity, with demonstrated experience mentoring,developing, and managing engineering teams.
  • Proven expertise in large-scale fiber design,route and build planning, permitting, and construction-ready deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of GIS applications, CADtools, asset management systems, and engineering workflows.
  • Experience managing internal teams andthird-party engineering vendors.
  • Developed leadership skills, with the ability tomentor and lead others.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes, regulatoryrequirements, and compliance for fiber deployments.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives andcommunicate effectively with executive leadership.
  • Experience using fiber optic networkdocumentation tools.
  • Understanding of network Engineering andinventory tools
  • Ability to travel occasionally (up to 10% of thetime).
  • The schedule for this position is Monday throughFriday with weekend availability as needed to complete the essential duties ofthis role.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license,auto insurance, and satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering,Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience analyzing and managing large datasetsin tools such as PowerBI and Tableau
  • Experience managing capital budgets.
