Job description

CloudHQ is a global leader in digital infrastructure, designing, building, and operating hyperscale and colocation data centers across North America, EMEA, Asia, and South America. Founded by a pioneer in the data center REIT industry, CloudHQ develops and delivers mission-critical infrastructure for many of the world's largest technology companies.

As global demand for digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, CloudHQ is expanding its hyperscale data center portfolio across North America and Latin America. The Energy Strategy & Procurement team plays a critical role in enabling that growth by securing the power and energy infrastructure required to support large-scale data center developments.

The Senior Manager, Energy will help lead this effort by developing and executing project-level energy strategies that accelerate speed-to-power while managing risk and supporting business objectives

Role Summary:

The Senior Manager, Energy serves as the primary energy lead for a portfolio of data center developments across North America and LATAM. Reporting to the VP, Energy Strategy & Power Procurement, this role is responsible for developing and executing energy strategies that support site selection, development, and project delivery from initial due diligence through energization. The role functions as the single point of accountability for project energy matters, ensuring energy-related risks, decisions, stakeholders, and infrastructure requirements remain aligned with project objectives and schedules.

The position is accountable for identifying, evaluating, securing, and advancing the utility, transmission, natural gas, onsite generation, and other energy infrastructure solutions required to meet project schedule, capacity, reliability, and commercial objectives.

Acting as the primary energy representative within the project team, the Senior Manager coordinates across Development, Design, Construction, Operations, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The role requires ownership of energy-related commercial negotiations, utility and fuel supply procurement, interconnection activities, regulatory engagement, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical, commercial, and strategic capabilities with the ability to navigate complex energy challenges and develop practical solutions that accelerate project delivery while mitigating schedule, capacity, regulatory, and commercial risks.

Key Responsibilities:
Utility, Natural Gas & Stakeholder Management:
  • Serve as the Energy Lead for multiple hyperscale data center projects.
  • Develop, own, and maintain project energy strategies from site selection through energization.
  • Coordinate with Development, Construction, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Operations, and Executive Leadership to achieve project objectives.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide recommendations to support key project decisions.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for electric utilities, natural gas utilities, transmission providers, regulators, consultants, and energy infrastructure developers.
  • Lead utility and gas company engagement strategies, negotiations, and issue resolution.
  • Drive external stakeholders to meet project milestones and energization schedules.
  • Manage consultant and vendor activities supporting energy project execution.
Infrastructure & Power Delivery:
  • Lead evaluation and implementation of electric utility, transmission, natural gas, onsite generation, microgrid, BESS, and alternative energy solutions.
  • Own interconnection and utility service strategies, applications, studies, and energization requirements.
  • Support development and execution of onsite generation and fuel supply strategies where required.
  • Ensure alignment of energy infrastructure solutions with project requirements and business objectives.
  • Develop and evaluate alternative pathways to energization, including utility, transmission, fuel supply, onsite generation, and hybrid infrastructure solutions.
Commercial & Regulatory:
  • Lead engagement with utilities, grid operators, regulators, and strategic vendors to secure power capacity, manage interconnections, and mitigate delivery risk.
  • Evaluate project energy costs, infrastructure investments, and commercial tradeoffs.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and policy initiatives that may impact project execution.
  • Support business case development and investment decisions related to energy infrastructure.
Financial, Risk & Performance Oversight:
  • Provide project accountability for infrastructure energy budgets, schedules, and performance KPIs across the project portfolio.
  • Identify and manage technical, commercial, and power delivery risks, escalating where required and implementing mitigation strategies proactively.
  • Support capital planning, investment cases, and executive decision-making with clear, data-driven recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, law, energy policy, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in energy, utility, power infrastructure, natural gas infrastructure, project development, energy procurement, utility interconnections, power generation, transmission, or related industries.
