Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Senior Manager of Applications Development in the Retirement Division. You will lead a team responsible for annuity-business applications, guiding technical direction, delivery, and modernization across multiple projects.

In this role you will mentor engineers, partner with Product and stakeholders, and drive scalable practices, cloud‑first architectures, and API ecosystems while balancing value, quality, and risk. Bellevue-based with flexible hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multiple software teams, including influencing roadmaps and planning.
• Strong technical leadership, evaluate approaches, and mentor engineers.
• Cloud architecture and modern practices; AWS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical direction to the engineering team.
• Lead delivery across multiple projects aligning resources with priorities.
• Drive development processes, tool adoption, and team scalability.
• Mentor future leaders and promote continuous learning and innovation.
• Partner with Product leadership to balance value, risk, and quality.
