Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Accounting Senior Manager to supervise and scale Alnylam’s core accounting functions, including monthly close, audits, systems, and application of accounting policies. This role requires deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and solve complex problems across diverse subject areas.

This role is considered Hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Reporting and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop a high-performing team of 3 full-time employees (1 direct report) and contractors based in Cambridge, MA, with potential team expansion.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for $1B+ of operating expenses, including expense allocations and non-operating items in accordance with U.S. GAAP; identify opportunities for improvement to scale for growth.
  • Manage foreign currency matters, including revaluation and translation adjustments.
  • Oversee accounting for a $1B+ portfolio of debt securities.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Capital Projects teams on fixed assets and leases.
  • Coordinate with FP&A, tax, and treasury to align actuals with forecasts and reconcile U.S. GAAP versus management reporting variances.
  • Support external reporting, ensuring timely key inputs for SEC filings.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external and internal auditors for smooth audit processes.
  • Ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting in compliance with SOX.
  • Identify and implement automation and process streamlining opportunities.
  • Collaborate with technical accounting on complex transactions and support global process standardization.
  • Provide insights and support to executive management, including on complex transactions.
  • Drive staff development, mentorship, and succession planning.
  • Lead ad hoc projects and analyses as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience in public accounting or private industry
  • CPA license required
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance
  • Experience in global biotech preferred
  • SAP experience strongly preferred
