Job summary

The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina seeks a Development Officer to advance its donor base by managing a portfolio of 100–125 major donors (10,000+ gifts) and leading cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.

The role collaborates with senior leadership and program staff to drive revenue growth, expand the donor pipeline, and support the organization’s mission in a hybrid work environment across North Carolina.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 7-10 years of fundraising, relationship management, sales, or related field with success in major gifts.
• Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts at the $10,000+ level.
• Experience managing a strategic donor portfolio with measurable fundraising outcomes.
• Ability to build credibility and relationships with donors, volunteers, senior leaders, and community stakeholders.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including proposal and donor correspondence development.
• Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
• Experience utilizing CRM systems and moves management; Raiser's Edge NXT experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Responsibilities

• Manage a dynamic portfolio of approximately 100–125 individual donors and prospects with capacity to give $10,000+ annually.
• Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and upgrade strategies to deepen engagement and increase philanthropic investment.
• Conduct high-volume donor interactions, including in-person visits, virtual meetings, and strategic touchpoints.
• Prepare compelling proposals, gift agreements, stewardship communications, and donor correspondence.
• Solicit and close major gifts in support of annual, campaign, and strategic funding priorities.
• Partner with senior leadership, board members, and staff to strengthen donor relationships and identify new opportunities.
• Identify and qualify new major gift prospects to grow portfolio and pipeline.
• Maintain donor records, moves management activity in CRM; ensure timely updates.
• Meet or exceed fundraising goals and KPIs observable through activity and revenue targets.
