The Nature Conservancy is seeking an Associate Director of Development to lead a donor portfolio and craft strategies that advance major gifts for conservation goals. You will tell compelling stories, engage high-net-worth donors, and partner with teams across chapters to maximize impact.

Based in Brunswick, Maine, this hybrid role requires a proactive fundraiser who thrives on discovery, qualification, and closing gifts, with strong writing and collaboration to drive the mission forward.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
• Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
• Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors simultaneously.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a large non-profit.
• Experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
• Experience, coursework, or training in current trends in charitable giving, capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of donors and pursue qualified prospects to meet fundraising goals.
• Meet discovery-based metrics and outreach targets.
• Conduct a high number of donor visits and moves annually.
• Negotiate complex agreements and ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements.
• Develop and articulate donor strategies, budgets, and proposals.
• Collaborate across chapters and programs with a One Conservancy mindset.
