Job summary

Merck & Co. in Durham, NC is seeking a Senior Mechanic to maintain and troubleshoot site utility and clean utility systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC, WFI, and related equipment.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to ensure reliable operation supporting biopharma production. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, calibration, and participation in validation, change control, and incident response.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical School Diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in industrial utilities, HVAC, or clean utility systems.
• Experience in GMP or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
• Working knowledge of SAP or CMMS maintenance systems.
• Knowledge of boilers, chillers, HVAC, WFI, clean steam systems, and related utility systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and commissioning on utility and clean utility equipment.
• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance and calibration per site procedures.
• Diagnose equipment failures and lead technical troubleshooting to restore reliability.
• Support utility outages, shutdowns, startups, and emergencies.
• Develop and revise SOPs, PM plans, and engineering documentation.
• Execute SAP work orders, notifications, confirmations, and material tracking.
• Assist with validation testing, commissioning, qualification activities, and change control.
• Support root cause investigations, deviations, CAPAs, and reliability improvement.
