Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Vernon, TX, is seeking a Maintenance Specialist IV to perform highly advanced building maintenance and trades work in the HVAC department at Vernon State Hospital. The role emphasizes restoration, systems maintenance, and project leadership in a state facility.

Candidates should have 3+ years in building trades, strong knowledge of electrical/plumbing/ carpentry, and the ability to supervise tasks while following safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair work across trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, mechanical equipment, carpentry or HVAC.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches for maintenance tasks.
• Knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and preventive maintenance practices.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or equivalent, with pre-employment checks as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform highly advanced restoration, renovation, and building maintenance work in designated skilled trades.
• Inspect, adjust, maintain, and repair building systems and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Lead workers on projects, establish schedules, and oversee repairs or renovations as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, projects, and materials and assist in COOP/disaster recovery tasks.
