The Refuse and Recycling Team consists of four staff servicing trash and recycling containers in City Parks. The Senior Maintenance Technician position is responsible for assisting Supervisor with scheduling and balancing collection routes, adding new locations, evaluating receptacle placement and locations, maintaining container inventory, coordinating dumpster service with outsourced vendors, service, and removal of Big Belly trash receptacles, along with coordinating the maintenance and repair of Refuse trucks.
The candidate for Refuse Crew Senior Maintenance Technician will lead our Refuse team of four staff maintaining trash and recycling containers in Raleigh’s Parks. The candidate will ensure daily equipment inspections and workload completion while observing safety practices, operation of trucks, lead and train Refuse crew on proper equipment operation and equipment preventative maintenance, communicate well, be reliable, safety conscious, and have a strong work ethic. Have strong leadership abilities.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and three years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work involves preparing and analyzing data and figures on a computer terminal, requiring extensive reading and visual inspection of small defects or small parts. Additional duties involve operating machines (including inspection), assembly, or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Very Heavy Work:
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 150 pounds.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat; noise; vibration; hazards; oils; infectious diseases and atmospheric conditions. Also works in indoor or office environment.
