Job Description

Johnson County Government's Facilities Management department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Maintenance Technician. First review of applications will begin on April 25, 2025.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Perform complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other craft and labor duties; complete work orders for maintenance and repair of building critical components of integrated building systems; check emergency systems; assist in diagnosing, repairing, and completing preventive maintenance duties on HVAC equipment and building infrastructure; review and understand building automation systems, making less complex adjustments.
2. Lead special projects including planning, inspections of facilities, buildings, equipment, and utility systems to identify needs, extent of services, and equipment requirements; coordinate and assist maintenance crews; escort vendors performing contracted services; train new crew members; ensure safety standards are met; share knowledge and help others acquire higher skills.
3. Repair and maintain complex tools, locking mechanisms, and equipment; maintain service records; monitor meter readings; assist in scheduling preventive maintenance; monitor inventory and stock; assist in compiling and reviewing operating costs, manpower needs, and budgets; prepare reports and maintain records.
4. Operate equipment, vehicles, and tools; use a variety of small and large tools; operate equipment such as tractors, trucks, scissor lifts, boom trucks, and snow removal equipment.
5. Complete paperwork, work orders, timesheets, and equipment logs using computerized systems; follow purchasing guidelines.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years' experience in building maintenance trades, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems in a commercial setting, along with three (3) years' experience in HVAC diagnosis and repair with an understanding of building systems interoperability. One (1) additional year of related experience may substitute for education. Must pass a criminal history screening and have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Johnson County Government requires background checks for all positions. Specific criteria may vary by department.

Preferred Job Requirements:

Vo-Tech or Associate’s degree in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Building Automation; Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification or equivalent are preferred.

Education/Experience Substitutions:

Experience may substitute for degree.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

• Excessive standing and/or walking: 60%
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, heights, and loud noises.
• Lifting weight: 50 lbs.
• On-call/stand-by work required.
• Weather essential: Department Essential
• Uniform required; PPE such as goggles, rubber boots, and gloves as needed.
• Respond to emergency and after-hours requests, including work during holidays, weekends, and nights, with overtime as necessary.
• Physical abilities including mobility, agility, strength, dexterity, balance, coordination, and endurance.
• All employees may be called upon to assist in emergency situations.
