Summary/Objective

Responsible for performing a wide variety of routine maintenance on buildings, equipment, and vehicles to keep them functional. Provides leadership, direction, and training to Maintenance Technicians.

Essential Functions
  • Tours buildings, equipment, and grounds daily to check for problems; determines priorities and makes repairs; discusses problems with Maintenance Supervisor
  • Provides input in planning maintenance programs and purchasing proper maintenance tools
  • Ability to perform plumbing installations: such as installing toilets and drain lines
  • Repair and erect wall partitions, shelves, fences, floors, doors, and other related items
  • Performs routine carpentry work, installs equipment, routine welding, paint/decorate interior and exterior surfaces, moves furniture, equipment, and supplies
  • Assists in routine maintenance of vehicles, including checking/replenishing fluids, checking tire pressure, cleaning, and taking vehicles for repairs that cannot be made by staff
  • Provides training on an “as needed” basis for Maintenance Technicians
  • Ability to perform major electrical installations such as new lighting installations and rewiring of building electrical systems
  • Janitorial duties including cleaning residences, schools, and offices
  • Acts as “Maintenance-on-call” when directed by supervisor
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned
Work Environment

This job operates in an adolescent residential therapeutic environment. The position will interact with adolescent youth who have experienced multiple traumas and have significant mental health and behavioral issues. Periodic travel to other nearby facilities may be required to ensure they are secured.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Frequent walking on slope hills, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, stooping, standing, twisting, climbing, crawling, reaching, walking, driving, kneeling, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Occasional typing, running, writing, and sitting.

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One or more years’ experience in institutional maintenance
  • Knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, automotive, and welding skills
Other Requirements
  • Valid California driver’s license and good driving record
  • Car insurance valid in California
  • Clear background checks (e.g., DOJ, Child Abuse, Licensing), physical, and drug screening
