Job summary

Cortland is hiring a Senior Maintenance Technician to mentor technicians and lead maintenance operations at our Cary properties. You will diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and building systems, while ensuring safety and timely actions.

You will participate in on-call rotations, manage tools and inventory, and deliver high-quality customer service to residents. A strong focus on preventive maintenance is essential.

Qualifications

• EPA universal certification is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3–5+ years of experience in maintenance, facilities, or multi-family housing.
• Advanced skills in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance repair, and general building systems.
• Ability to mentor staff and support daily departmental leadership.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer-service abilities.
• Ability to safely use tools, lift heavy items, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to participate in on-call and emergency response schedules.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support Service Technicians and assist in leading maintenance operations.
• Serve as acting lead in the Service Manager’s absence.
• Diagnose and repair advanced issues in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and general building systems.
• Address unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective action by the team.
• Monitor and report on building and security systems, including automatic doors and cameras.
• Perform and oversee preventative maintenance on HVAC and building equipment.
• Manage inventory of tools, supplies, and spare parts.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to property and resident emergencies.
• Provide professional, high-quality customer service to residents.
• Document all work completed and report recurring issues.
