Job summary

State of California's Monterey District is seeking a Senior Maintenance Aide (Seasonal) to work on trails and heavy equipment projects across Monterey District, often from remote locations and spike camps, and to supervise youth corps crews.

SENIOR MAINTENANCE AIDE (SEASONAL) - MONTEREY DISTRICT / DISTRICT ROADS AND TRAILS SERVICES

Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. The reporting location for this position is the district trails headquarters office located at Ixshenta State Park (formerly the Point Lobos Ranch property) in Carmel, California, across the street from Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. This position will work under the District Roads and Trails Park Maintenance Supervisor.

Duties include working on trails and heavy equipment projects throughout the Monterey District. The Senior Maintenance Aide will frequently work from remote locations to efficiently complete task assignments. This position will provide daily support to contracted youth corps crews in project implementation that includes trail and road construction, maintenance, and resource activities. Work will include heavy manual labor, extensive walking to and from work sites, hot summer temperatures, cold winter conditions including work in rain, and coastal environments. This position is required to work nights, weekends, and odd hours and overtime in accomplishment of assigned tasks. This position will spike camp at work sites throughout the state. Remote work locations, 8 or 10-day work assignments, overnight travel and spike camps are expected.

Normal working hours are 0700 to 1730 four days per week. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)
