Job summary

Symetra Financial Corp. is seeking a Sr Software Engineer to support CyberLife, a mainframe life insurance policy administration system. You will design, develop, test, and deploy enhancements, focusing on real-time APIs and secure integrations while operating in an Agile environment.

You will collaborate with business and tech stakeholders, mentor teammates, and contribute to architectural discussions to move toward more digital, real-time processing capabilities.

Qualifications

• Senior Software Engineer with experience supporting life insurance policy administration platforms (CyberLife, Life70, and mainframe systems).
• Strong background in COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and enterprise-scale mainframe development.
• Experience integrating legacy systems with modern tech via REST, SOAP, JSON and XML.
• Collaborative, agile team player who can mentor others and contribute to architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements for the CyberLife policy administration platform.
• Participate in Agile/Kanban ceremonies and provide estimates for initiatives.
• Build and maintain secure, high-performing APIs and integrations for real-time data exchange.
• Support testing, deployments, and movement of applications through development to production.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor engineers on best practices.
