Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Sr. Infrastructure Engineer I to join the Mainframe Pod within the Infrastructure & Operations team. You will lead day-to-day mainframe operations, coordinate with our managed service provider, and drive incident handling, changes, and modernization efforts.

The role requires hands-on mainframe expertise and collaborative leadership to align partners, ensure security and efficiency, and support critical applications like Endevor and ESP tooling.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with mainframe environments and operations.
• Ability to coordinate incidents and changes with service providers.

Responsibilities

• Act as main contact for mainframe operations, overseeing daily health, stability, and performance.
• Bridge between application teams and the managed service provider to ensure clear communication and timely resolutions.
• Manage Service Requests and Incidents, with hands-on troubleshooting and escalation as needed.
• Monitor ESP Scheduler activities, scheduling, execution, and troubleshooting of batch workloads.
• Collaborate with app teams to optimize ESP job calendars and dependencies.
• Coordinate mainframe upgrades and changes with minimal downtime.
• Provide support for Endevor, Terminal Emulator, Control-D, and related tools.
• Support audit and regulatory compliance activities with proper documentation.
• Contribute architectural input and best-practice guidance for mainframe applications.
• Support real-time integrations and web services linking distributed platforms to the mainframe.
• Participate in modernization initiatives to transition legacy workloads to more agile solutions.
