Job summary

Wells Fargo is seeking an experienced software engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe COBOL applications supporting core banking functions. The role involves end-to-end SDLC participation, high-volume batch/online processing, and rigorous production support.

You will analyze complex incidents, contribute to regulatory changes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security and audit readiness. Strong Agile/SDLC experience is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL development on z/OS.
• Experience with mainframe batch and online processing.
• Working knowledge of JCL, VSAM, and mainframe data structures.
• Experience with DB2 and/or IMS databases.
• Experience with GitHub Copilot and AI tooling.
• Familiarity with Endevor or similar source control/version management tools.
• Experience supporting production systems in a regulated or mission-critical environment.
• Ability to analyze complex system behaviors and troubleshoot issues effectively.
• Experience working within Agile or structured SDLC methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe COBOL applications supporting core banking functions.
• Participate in end-to-end SDLC activities, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Develop and support batch and online processing workflows in high-volume environments.
• Analyze and resolve complex production incidents, performing root-cause analysis and developing preventative solutions.
• Contribute to application enhancements, regulatory changes, and modernization initiatives.
• Collaborate with business partners, architects, QA, and infrastructure teams.
• Participate in release planning, production readiness, and post-release validation.
• Ensure applications meet Wells Fargo security, risk, compliance, and audit requirements.
• Support operational excellence, including performance tuning and availability improvements.
• Participate in Agile delivery processes and enterprise SDLC standards.
