Job summary

Wells Fargo is seeking an experienced mainframe software engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL applications supporting core banking functions in a high‑volume, regulated environment.

You will participate in end‑to‑end SDLC activities, collaborate with diverse teams, and contribute to modernization initiatives while ensuring security, compliance, and audit readiness. This on‑site role is based in Charlotte, NC.

Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent.
Strong COBOL on z/OS and mainframe batch/online processing.
Experience with JCL/VSAM and mainframe data structures.
Experience with DB2 and/or IMS databases.
Familiarity with Endevor or similar SCM tools.
Experience in regulated or mission-critical environments.
Experience in Agile development and SDLC.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe COBOL apps.
Participate in end-to-end SDLC activities.
Develop and support batch and online processing workflows.
Analyze production incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
Contribute to enhancements and modernization initiatives.
Collaborate with business partners, QA, and infrastructure.
Participate in release planning, production readiness, and post-release validation.
Ensure compliance with security, risk, and audit requirements.
Support performance tuning and availability improvements.
Participate in Agile delivery processes and enterprise SDLC standards.
