Job summary

Atos in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to design, build and support large-scale mainframe applications in production environments.

You will work with COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2, ensuring batch and online processing runs reliably while driving performance improvements and modernization initiatives. Collaboration with business users and IT teams will be essential to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mainframe technologies including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS, MQ Series, and z/OS.
• Hands-on experience with batch processing, online transactions, production support, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Exposure to RESTful APIs, Kafka/event-driven systems, ITIL processes, and cloud/mainframe modernization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support complex, large-scale mainframe applications in production environments.
• Accountable for system design, batch/online architecture, and performance optimization.
• Lead code reviews, enforce JCL standards, and drive CI/CD and release management.
• Enable automated deployment across development, QA, UAT, and production mainframes.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and provide strategic technical recommendations.
• Partner with leadership to design secure, high-performing mainframe solutions and roadmaps.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement using metrics.
