Job summary

Sulzer in Odessa, TX is seeking a Journey Level Machinist to set up and operate a range of machine tools, including ID/OD grinders, lathes, mills, and planers, to manufacture and recondition components to exacting standards.

You will read drawings and GD&T, hold tight tolerances, inspect parts with precision instruments, and mentor fellow shop staff. The role requires strong teamwork, overtime flexibility, and commitment to Lean and safety practices in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of machinist apprentice program or equivalent training.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct component inspections.
• Experience setting up CNC and conventional machine tools.
• 5 years of experience in machine shops on listed equipment.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Team-oriented and able to work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools including ID/OD grinder, lathes, mills, and planers.
• Read drawings and GD&T to manufacture and recondition components.
• Inspect components with precision measuring instruments.
• Improve methods for higher quality and lower costs.
• Assist maintenance with diagnosis and preventive maintenance.
• Train other shop personnel in machining techniques.
• Operate jib cranes and forklifts as directed.
