Job summary

Stellant Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Machinist to join our on-site team in Melville, NY. You will set up and operate manual and CNC machines to produce precision parts from drawings, ensuring strict tolerances.

Required are strong experience with Haas equipment, CAM programming (MasterCam/Fusion 360), GD&T, and metrology tools; exceptional attention to detail and adherence to 5S/LEAN in a military/space-grade environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 8 years of machining experience, or associate degree with 6 years, in a machine shop.
• 5+ years in a machine shop with Haas equipment and CAM programming.
• Proficiency with MasterCam and/or Fusion 360; Inventor is a plus.
• Ability to hold tight tolerances using precision metrology tools and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machines to produce precision parts from drawings.
• Read blueprints and GD&T, applying shop math and tolerances.
• Maintain tight tolerances for military/space grade parts.
• Determine tooling, sequences, and machining strategies.
• Select cutting tools and maintain tooling.
• Verify conformance with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.
• Maintain 5S standards and clean shop environment.
• Identify equipment and process improvements as needed.

Job Title: Senior Machinist

Salary: $40.00-$55.00/hr DOE

Job Location: Melville, NY (100% onsite)

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools—including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and Haas CNC machinery—to produce precision parts, tools, and fixtures from drawings, sketches, and operation sheets.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering documentation, applying shop mathematics and GD&T.
• Consistently achieve extremely tight dimensional tolerances required in military/space grade manufacturing.
• Determine required machinery, sequence of operations, setups, and machining strategies.
• Select proper cutting tools for each operation, including grinding, sharpening, and maintaining tooling.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection tools to verify conformance.
• Maintain excellent attention to detail, organization, and adherence to 5S standards to keep a clean and efficient shop environment.
• Monitor ongoing shop activities and identify needs for new equipment, tooling, work holding/fixturing, and process improvements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or associate’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience in a machine shop environment with strong knowledge of machining practices, setups, tooling, and material characteristics (metals and plastics)
• Experience with Haas CNC equipment
• Proficiency in MasterCam and/or Fusion 360 for machining/CAM programming
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor is highly desirable
• Demonstrated ability to hold and verify tight tolerances using precision metrology tools
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and adherence to 5S/LEAN methodologies
• Excellent communications skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
• Microsoft Office proficiency
