Salary Range: $30.00 To $45.00 Hourly

Overview: GW Lisk / Island Components designs, manufactures, and provides post warranty support for complex, high reliability products that support space, aerospace, industrial and automotive applications. The manufacturing environment supports global customers across both high volume/low mix as well as low volume/high-mix products with an emphasis on complex machining, assembly, and testing processes.

The Machinist provides machining tooling, setup and operations in a machine shop environment to support advanced manufacturing processes within an aerospace production environment. The Machinist analyzes specifications, provides fabrication methods, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts. Also responsible to make and repair tooling, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. This role provides machining support for Operations and influences continuous improvement, ensures compliance with strict aerospace quality and regulatory standards, and provides high-level machining operations technical knowledge. The Machinist will play a key role in supporting production readiness, operational excellence, and technology integration for complex aerospace motors, actuators and components. This role works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and NPI teams to ensure production of high-quality products, smooth daily operations and continuous improvement across all products. Maintains a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures and safety regulations.

Specific Duties:
  • Setting up manual mills, lathes, hones and CNC equipment with limited supervision, including prove-outs of new processes and all adjustments required to obtain a drawing compliant parts and an approved First Article Inspection Report.
  • Full dimensional inspections, including lengths, diameters, radii, finishes, and all positional and geometric requirements, both for First Article preparation and in process inspection.
  • Running production quantities while maintaining process capability as well as meeting productivity standards.
  • Trouble-shooting and process improvements during both setup and production.
  • Working with teammates to ensure the team meets shared objectives.
  • Performing routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Using software tools to manage tooling inventory, review standards, and capture job performance data.
  • Keeping the team's work area clean.
  • Must observe all safety regulations to ensure employees own safety as well as the safety of others. Support a safe and healthy work environment that is free of recognized hazards for all employees, contractors and visitors.

  • MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:High mental and visual attention required for planning difficult work methods and sequences to obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product.
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:Ability to sit, stand, reach, walk, lift, use fingers, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time. Ability to exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • EQUIPMENT USED:Ability to operate CNC mill and lathe with live tooling. Ability to operate manual mill, lathes, grinders and hone. Operate basic hand and power tools, digital calipers, micrometers, tape measures, band saw, sander, drill press, ear protectors, dust mask, respirator, latex and leather gloves, and safety glasses.
Required skills include:
  • Strong blueprint reading and comprehension. Understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 is a significant plus.
  • Skilled in manual mill, lathe, hone, grinding and CNC setup and operation functions. Knowledge of programming is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of production tooling selection and use, including spindle tooling and cutting tools.
  • Expert in common inspection and gaging techniques, including micrometers, bore gages, height gages, indicators, thread gaging, profilometers, and optical comparators. Working knowledge of CMMs, vision systems and other metrology equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to meet productivity and quality standards while working with a diverse range of components, materials, and equipment.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem-solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Basic computer and software skills. Strengths in CAD/CAM, SPC, ERP, inventory, or typical office applications is a plus.
  • Five years machining experience including familiarity with manual and CNC production equipment.
  • Three years setup and production experience on CNC equipment.
  • Diploma or degree in related technical field is a plus.
  • Leadership experience is a plus.

Compensation: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour based on experience
