CommScope in Shakopee, MN is seeking a Senior Machine Vision Engineer to lead the design, build, and commissioning of vision stations for a new fiber-optic connector production line. This is a hands-on, onsite role owning inspection stations from concept through production.

You will select cameras, lenses, lighting, and triggers, develop 2D/3D inspection software, and integrate vision results with PLCs, HMIs, and MES/SQL tools. 100% onsite, 12-month contract, $60-$80/hr.

Qualifikationen

Senior Machine Vision Engineer

We're supporting CommScope as they build a new generation of automated manufacturing equipment for a fiber-optic connector product driven by hyperscale AI data center demand.

This is a senior, hands-on industrial machine vision role for someone who has personally built and commissioned vision systems on production equipment. You'll serve as the team's go-to vision expert, owning inspection stations from concept through production.

What You'll Do

• Design and build machine-vision inspection stations from the ground up
• Select and configure industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, sensors, and triggers
• Develop and tune 2D and 3D inspection and measurement applications
• Work primarily with Keyence, with Cognex also highly relevant
• Develop inspection logic using tools such as pattern matching, edge detection, blob analysis, OCR, and 2D code reading
• Integrate vision results with PLCs, HMIs, and machine logic
• Support platforms such as Allen-Bradley / Studio 5000, Beckhoff / TwinCAT, and Siemens
• Calibrate and validate vision systems for repeatable, high-uptime production
• Troubleshoot camera, lighting, inspection, communication, and machine-integration issues
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective action
• Connect inspection data to systems such as SCADA, MES, SQL, or Power BI
• Create test procedures, wiring diagrams, and calibration documentation

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on automation / manufacturing engineering experience
• Strong recent experience with industrial machine vision
• Experience personally selecting and configuring cameras, lenses, and lighting
• Hands-on experience integrating vision systems with PLCs and automated equipment
• Strong experience with Keyence or Cognex
• Experience commissioning or troubleshooting vision systems in production
• Strong understanding of image-processing fundamentals
• Ability to work independently as the team's subject-matter expert
• Strong communication, curiosity, and collaborative problem-solving skills

What This Role Is - and Is Not

This is for a builder, not a software-only image analyst.

The ideal candidate has physically built vision stations and can walk through:

camera selection → lens → lighting → mounting → triggering → inspection logic → PLC integration → pass/fail / reject logic → calibration → production troubleshooting

Candidates focused primarily on computer-vision research, OpenCV analysis, AI perception, or image-processing software without hands-on machine integration will not be the strongest fit.
