Job summary

GCS Recruitment Specialists in the United States is seeking a Fiber Optics Engineer to own machine vision across our automated production lines for a new fiber optic connector product driven by AI data centre demand. You will lead 2D/3D inspection, design vision stations, and ensure high uptime across the line.

You will integrate vision results with PLCs and HMIs, calibrate systems, and connect inspection data to SCADA, MES, SQL or Power BI for traceability and quality tracking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on automation experience with machine vision.
• Expert image processing skills: blob analysis, edge detection, pattern matching, OCR and 2D code reading.
• Experience interfacing vision systems with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff or Siemens) and HMIs.
• Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus or Profibus.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify vision stations, selecting cameras, lenses, lighting and sensors for each inspection.
• Develop and tune 2D and 3D inspection and measurement algorithms, primarily in Keyence.
• Write custom inspection logic in Python, C++ or C# where standard tools fall short.
• Integrate vision results with PLCs, HMIs and machine logic over industrial networks.
• Calibrate and validate vision systems for repeatable, high uptime performance.
• Connect inspection data to SCADA, MES, SQL or Power BI for traceability and quality tracking.
• Troubleshoot vision related machine issues and lead root cause analysis.
• Write test procedures, wiring diagrams and calibration documentation.

Fiber Optics Engineer

About the Role

We're building production lines for a brand new fiber optic connector product driven by AI data centre demand. We're looking for a senior engineer to own machine vision across our custom automated equipment. You'll lead 2D and 3D inspection and measurement, imaging system design and vision integration with machine controls, including in process inspection that replaces high cost microscope stations. You'll be our go to vision expert.

What You'll Do

• Design and specify vision stations, selecting cameras, lenses, lighting and sensors for each inspection
• Develop and tune 2D and 3D inspection and measurement algorithms, primarily in Keyence
• Write custom inspection logic in Python, C++ or C# where standard tools fall short
• Integrate vision results with Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs and machine logic over industrial networks
• Calibrate and validate vision systems for repeatable, high uptime performance
• Connect inspection data to SCADA, MES, SQL or Power BI for traceability and quality tracking
• Troubleshoot vision related machine issues and lead root cause analysis

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or a related field

• Keyence 2D and 3D measurement experience strongly preferred. Cognex VisionPro, OpenCV or HALCON also valued
• Experience interfacing vision systems with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff or Siemens) and HMIs
• Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus or Profibus
• Strong analytical and root cause problem solving skills

Nice to Have

• Python, C++ or C# for custom algorithm development
• Experience with SCADA, MES, SQL databases or Power BI
