Job summary

Eaton’s Boyd Thermal Integration team is seeking a Machine Safety Engineering Specialist to ensure functional safety and compliance of machinery and automated systems through international standards and risk methodologies.

The role focuses on safety system design, hazard analysis, and remediation across facilities, with significant collaboration with EHS, engineering, and operations. The ideal candidate has 6+ years in the field and will travel up to 50% within the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or other technical area from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 6+ years of machinery safety, automation, or industrial controls engineering.
• Strong proficiency in safety system design, validation, and deployment.
• Familiarity with LOTO procedures and energy control processes.
• U.S. work location and willingness to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine safety risk assessments and hazard analyses for manufacturing equipment and automated systems per ISO 12100.
• Design, specify, implement, and validate safety-related control systems per ISO 13849 and IEC 62061.
• Develop Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), PLr/SIL, and safeguards including E-stops and interlocks.
• Verify and validate safety systems via testing, analysis, simulation, and documentation.
• Develop and execute machine safety remediation plans from assessment to implementation.
• Collaborate with EHS, engineering, maintenance, and operations for compliance and risk reduction.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including risk assessments and safety files.
• Support EMSE program by mentoring candidates and promoting best practices.
