Job summary

Eaton’s Boyd Thermal Integration team is seeking a Machine Safety Engineer to assure functional safety and compliance of machinery and automated systems through international standards and risk assessment methodologies. This role emphasizes building internal machine safety expertise and advancing safety culture across facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical field.
• 6+ years of machinery safety, automation, or industrial controls experience.
• Strong proficiency in safety system design and deployment.
• Familiarity with LOTO procedures and energy control processes.
• Authorized to work in the United States and willing to travel up to 50%.
• Eaton will not sponsor immigration for this position.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine safety risk assessments and hazard analyses for manufacturing equipment and automated systems per ISO 12100.
• Design, specify, implement, and validate safety-related control systems per ISO 13849, IEC 62061, and related standards.
• Develop Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS) and define PLr/SIL; implement safeguards including emergency stops and interlocks.
• Perform verification and validation of safety systems through testing, analysis, simulation, and documentation.
• Develop and execute machine safety remediation plans, managing projects end-to-end.
• Collaborate with EHS, engineering, maintenance, and operations to ensure compliance and drive risk reduction.
• Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments, safety files, user instructions, and residual risk mitigation plans.
• Support Eaton’s Machine Safety Expert (EMSE) program by mentoring candidates and contributing to enterprise-wide initiatives.
