Job summary

Eaton’s Boyd Thermal Integration team is seeking a Machine Safety Engineering Specialist to ensure functional safety of machinery and automated systems in accordance with international standards. The role focuses on risk assessment, control system design, validation, and documentation to support safe operation and continuous risk reduction.

You will mentor others through the EMSE program and collaborate with EHS, engineering, and operations across our facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited institution
• Minimum 6+ years of experience in machinery safety, automation, or industrial controls engineering
• Strong proficiency in safety system design, validation, and deployment
• Strong familiarity with LOTO procedures and energy control processes
• Must be physically located in the United States and travel up to 50%

Responsibilities

• Lead machine safety risk assessments and hazard analyses per ISO 12100 across the machine lifecycle
• Design, implement, and validate safety systems using electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, software, and automation technologies per ISO standards
• Develop Safety Requirements Specifications and determine PLr/SIL; implement safeguards including emergency stops and interlocks
• Verify and validate safety systems through testing, analysis, simulation, and documentation
• Develop and execute remediation plans from assessment to implementation on schedule
• Collaborate with EHS, engineering, maintenance, and operations to ensure safe equipment operation
• Prepare technical documentation including risk assessments, safety files, and residual risk mitigation
• Support EMSE program by mentoring and promoting best practices
