Job summary

Wabtec is seeking a Senior Engineer – Locomotive Network Controls to lead architecture, development, and validation of locomotive communication networks. You will apply Ethernet, ARCNET, and serial networking knowledge to enable reliable, secure control systems for freight, transit, and battery-electric platforms.

You will collaborate with systems, software, and cybersecurity teams, guiding design validation, NPI programs, and field issue resolution while supporting next‑generation technologies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• 10+ years of engineering experience including 3+ years Ethernet network design.
• Experience with Layer 2/3 switch configuration and network architecture development.
• Knowledge of communications networks, controls systems, software integration, and cybersecurity; controls or software development preferred.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on experience in lab and locomotive environments for design validation and testing.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop Serial, Ethernet, and ARCNET networks for locomotive and transit applications.
• Lead network design activities for NPI programs, upgrades, and customer requisitions.
• Develop and manage network requirements, design standards, and validation methodologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure integration and validation of locomotive control systems and network architectures.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives by incorporating secure network design principles.
• Investigate and resolve field and lab issues through root cause analysis and corrective action.
• Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineering teams and communicate program status.
• Support development of next-generation locomotive technologies, including battery-electric and transit applications.
