Job summary

Genentech is seeking a Scientist 3 to join the Formulation team in San Diego, CA. You will independently synthesize and optimize lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery, with DoE-driven screening and cross-functional collaboration across biology, analytics and chemistry.

You’ll contribute to early-stage formulation development, scale-up, and stability studies, while maintaining meticulous records and presenting results in meetings. A strong publication/patent track record is valued.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s with 3+ years industry experience in related discipline.
• 2+ years hands-on lab experience in LNP formulation and nucleic acid encapsulation.
• Proficient with LNP characterization: DLS, zeta potential, Ribogreen assays.
• Experience with Excel and data analysis software (JMP, Prism).
• Publications or patents in LNP field.

Responsibilities

• Independently optimize synthesis of targeted/non-targeted LNPs for in vitro/in vivo studies.
• Lead DoE-based screening campaigns to discover LNPs and optimize formulations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with biology, analytics, chemistry and PM teams.
• Support early-stage formulation development, including cryoprotection, scale-up, stability studies.
• Maintain detailed records of formulation activities and results.
• Analyze, interpret and present experimental data in group meetings.
• Troubleshoot formulation challenges and improve workflows.
