Job summary

The Retreat at Sunbrook in Vermont is seeking a Culinary Assistant to support the kitchen, dining room, dish room, and related areas under the direction of the Culinary Coordinator. This role ensures a high-quality dining experience for residents while maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and regulatory compliance.

You will prepare dining room setups, serve residents, transport food, maintain sanitation with PPE, and participate in staff meetings and events.

Qualifications

• High school student (14+) working toward a diploma; must follow state employment rules.
• Strong communication, organizational, and listening abilities.
• Calm, friendly demeanor with patience and flexibility.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willing to receive supervision and show basic problem-solving.
• Experience in elderly care or hospitality is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up the dining room for meals and serve residents.
• Transport food to other dining areas and clear tables.
• Maintain sanitation and hygiene, including use of PPE and hair covering/hand protection rules.
• Report unsafe conditions and respond to alarms or emergencies.
• Attend staff meetings, bi-weekly in-services, and safety committees.
• Assist with scheduled activities and events as requested.
• Follow policies and state regulations for assisted living.
